March 2021 is when I first met Vera in the upstairs hallway of my dear client’s home where she was acclimating to Colorado. Vera is the name I bestowed upon the inherited mirror from my client’s beloved Aunt Vera. The gilded mirror is as beautiful as Vera.
There was instant inspiration for designing the primary bathroom remodel. Vera the mirror appeared as the brightest star guiding my design. Intentionally honoring the past and while taking full advantage of today’s amenities this bathroom remodel checkes boxes that were not even on the list!
Patio size tub deck
Square miles. That is how vast the original tiled tub deck felt. Out the window it must go.
Car Wash Shower
Redesigning the jumbo dual entry car wash size shower into a cozy wet room to steam and cleanse and truly relax.
Vanity
Almost too long vanity cabinets benefited from varied depths and heights, mixing materials and finishes while giving your eye a place to rest yet also being dazzled in each moment. This is where Vera made her new home in Colorado.
Past Freshness Date.
The flesh toned tile slathered around the entire space was serving past due vibes. While the daylight and general layout were perfect, the flooring, woodwork, lighting, plumbing, fabrics and decor were ready to come forward and better align with the new owner, my client’s lifestyle.
Warm + Unique + Blue + Taupe = Harmonious Oasis
That’s the secret formula to this handsomly feminine sanctuary we achieved in the recent bathroom remodel.
Vera the mirror brought the gold tones which we balanced with the warmth and sheen of polished nickel. Both finishes live easily in the past, the present and in the future.
My client had been a wallpaper hanger in her past and therefore had a strong appreciation for the beauty of hand painted wall paper. The indigo tones of Maya Romanoff’s River Bed were perfect in color, texture and name. Was it a perfect installation? Nope, it was not. And, yet with the understanding about hand made, human hung art paper, there was kindness in her acceptance of the installed imperfection.
The textured porcelain floor tile anchor the room and provides the perfect companion to the deep brown tones of the stain on the cherry cabinets. Topping the vanity with slabs of Ella from Cambria keep the countertops light and bright with a hint of greige.
To me the sconce and faucet seemed like long lost cousins and so they joined the family. Vivian meet Vera.
And to the soothing neutrals we added saturated tones of blue and violet evoking blooming flowers.

Remodeling is rarely a direct line from design to finish. Finding out the conditions after demolition will guide the final decisions for the layout and present areas to address. Here is a peak at the process that lead to results that we are all proud of!
Early phase of the demolition. Getting that patio size tub deck out of the room is already a game changer. What will we find next?
Party of 12, your shower is ready!

Shower prep is critical to keeping water where you want it.
Progress!
Great tile setting is worth the wait.
Sometimes things happen and a delicate material may show its vulnerability. True craftsmanship is not the same as perfection.
